About

Engineering leadership and systems research across global networking, mobile platforms, and wireless systems.

Yunfei Ma

I lead Uber’s Mobile & Edge Networking organization.

The Edge Networking team manages all Layer 7 traffic into Uber, supporting both mobile and web platforms, and manages Uber’s global DNS infrastructure, anti-DDoS infrastructure, and network security.

The Mobile Networking team owns the mobile networking stack, libraries, and observability infrastructure across all Uber apps on iOS and Android.

Previously, I was a researcher and senior manager at Alibaba Group in Sunnyvale, where I helped build mobile and wide-area networking technologies for Alibaba’s global infrastructure across commerce, video conferencing, and cloud services.

Production impactXLINK deployed the Multipath QUIC protocol to Taobao at scale.
Open standardI am also one of the authors of the IETF Multipath QUIC protocol.

Before industry, I was a postdoctoral associate in the Signal Kinetics group at MIT Media Lab, supervised by Professor Fadel Adib. I earned my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, advised by Professor Edwin C. Kan, and my B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China.
